'THE MOLONG “EXPRESS”
52nd
ANNIVERSARY.
The 52nd
anniversary of the establishment of the 'Express' occurred this week. Fifty two
years!
That,
perhaps is more than the individual age of the great majority of our readers.
When the 'Express' first saw the light the present publisher and the editor of this
journal were very young indeed, while the two gentlemen who help to produce the
paper at the Linotype and the printing machine respectively were unborn.
It seems a
long time ago, does it not? 'Wonderful are the strides the world has made since
the paper made its first appearance. Wonderful, too, will be the strides made
when it celebrates its diamond jubilee.
Few papers can claim what the 'Express'
claims it is still in the family which set it going on its successful career 52
years ago this October.
With the advancing years the paper is strengthened by
the belief that its policy of straightforwardness and fearlessness, combined
with the desire to make our district first and foremost, is endorsed by an
ever-increasing and very large list of subscribers.
That policy has' stood for
over half a century. We appreciate the generous support at all times accorded the
paper.
The following line appeared in the 'Back to Molong “Souvenir Book:
'The Molong 'Express' is one of the few papers that is held in the family of the
originators. In 1876 — that is 52 years ago — the late Henry Vale Leathem and
John Ebb Leathem established the paper, and to-day it is controlled by Mr.
Charles Leathem (a son of the former) on behalf of the present proprietary.
For
more than half a century the paper has been carried on by the same family with
a policy that has won lasting recognition from the public.
The 'Express' is
widely circulated and is bright and newsy, much attention being devoted to
local and district events.
The ‘Express’ has always adopted a fearless,
outspoken policy on behalf of the people, the district, and the State.
Controlled in a competent way by practical people the 'Express' stands high in
the estimation of its exceedingly –large list of subscribers.
The plant is
up-to-date, including a modern linotype.'
